Bilingualism

Amelia Earhart Grundschule is a bilingual school, which teaches English from the pre-school level. It uses the immersion system which means that one of the two present teachers speaks only German with the students while the other speaks only English. This has the effect that English is constantly present for the students and becomes a natural way of communicating. Thus the students are brought up in a bilingual environment and do not consider English as a foreign language.

Throughout the time at Amelia Earhart Grundschule more and more classes – with the exception of German – are taught partially in English. German does however remain the language of instruction and is not replaced by English.
